BOARD of Directors
James "Jay" R. Bertelli, Member of the Board
A co-founder of Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. in 1981, Mr. Bertelli is
Mercury Computer System’s Executive Chairman of the Board (NASDAQ:
MRCY).
Nearly two decades ago, Mr. Bertelli identified a class of
applications that general-purpose computers and workstations could not
satisfy. He recognized an opportunity to build high-performance
accelerator processors to increase the performance of demanding scientific
and industrial applications, which led to the launching of Mercury
Computer Systems. Mr. Bertelli most recently served as the Company’s
President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the
Board.
Prior to founding Mercury, Mr. Bertelli served Analogic
Corporation in sales management positions where he developed the awareness
of a market need for specialized, high-performance attached processors.
Before Analogic, Mr. Bertelli served as a marketing manager for Digital
Equipment Corporation's telephone industry products group. After a tour of
duty in the Army Signal Corps, he launched his high-tech career with RCA
as a system analyst in the RCA Computer Systems Division, and later moved
into sales with RCA, then Univac.
Mr. Bertelli has applied his
leadership to help numerous New England community organizations and
continues his commitment to social responsibility through ongoing
corporate donations and supporting associates' efforts to raise money for
various causes. He received the Ernst & Young 'Entrepreneur of the
Year' Award for New England in the technology manufacturing/hardware
category in June 2002. Mr. Bertelli earned an electrical engineering
degree from Northeastern University.
